Ramsey Steps Made Simple

Intro: Ramsey Made Simple — For Real Life
Dave Ramsey’s principles changed lives — including mine.
But let’s be honest: for busy, overwhelmed people, the Baby Steps can feel like a second job.
I’m a Ramsey Certified Coach with a minimalist mindset. I believe in less overwhelm and more clarity.
In this series, I’ll break down each of the Baby Steps, simplify the process, and help you move forward — even if you’re starting small
Let’s make money make sense again.
Baby Step 1: Emergency Fund, Simplified
Dave says: Save $1,000 for a starter emergency fund.
Claudia’s simplified version:
Start with $100. Then $200. Then $500.
Progress beats perfection. The goal isn’t a perfect number — it’s breaking the paycheck-to-paycheck cycle.

Baby Step 2: Debt Payoff, Simplified
Dave says: Pay off all debt (except your mortgage) using the debt snowball method.
Claudia’s simplified version:
- Pick your smallest debt.
- Pay minimums on everything else.
- Throw everything extra at that one debt.
- When it’s gone, roll that payment to the next smallest.
Don’t overcomplicate it. You don’t need spreadsheets or apps unless that helps you stay motivated.
Baby Step 3: Emergency Fund 2.0, Simplified
Dave Says:
Save 3–6 months of expenses for a fully funded emergency fund.
Claudia’s simplified version:
Start with 3 months of essentials: housing, food, utilities, transportation.
Forget the big number for now. Start with $100/month toward that peace of mind.
The goal isn’t panic — it’s peace.
Baby Step 4: Invest 15%, Simplified
Dave says: Invest 15% of your income into retirement.
Claudia’s simplified version:
Start with 1%. Then 2%. Then 4%.
Build the habit first. Use your employer’s match if you have one — it’s free money.
You don’t have to master investing. You just have to start.
Baby Step 5: Save for College, Simplified
Dave says: Save for your kids’ college with an ESA or 529 Plan.
Claudia’s simplified version:
If you’re on Baby Step 5, you’re already doing great.
Start small — even $25/month adds up over time.
You can borrow for school, but not for retirement.
Baby Step 6: Pay Off Your Mortgage, Simplified
Dave says: Pay off your home early.
Claudia’s simplified version:
Throw every extra dollar at your principal.
Even $100/month makes a difference.
The goal isn’t to be house-poor — it’s to be house-paid.
Baby Step 7: Build Wealth & Give, Simplified
Dave says: Live and give like no one else.
Claudia’s simplified version:
At this stage, it’s not about more — it’s about meaning.
You’ve built margin. Now enjoy it — and share it.
Give generously. Save wisely. Spend with purpose.
